122G Visa

Residence Permit Under Medical Ground (122-G)
Applying residence for an individual who suffers from imaginative and physical health for an EU family member or holds Portuguese TR, PR, and nationality.

A person who is a family member of the European Union National OR who holds a Portuguese TR/PR/Portuguese Passport and suffering from mental and physical health and need prolonged medical care can apply for residence in Portugal.

Any family member (brother, sister, the older son, and daughter) whose age is more than 18 years also qualify to get residency. To get residency under this clause, you are required first to call SEF and get an appointment then, and the applicant will visit personally and deliver documents to the SEF; in case if the applicant is minor or disable then, a legal representative may process based on the decision given by SEF.

The following documents need to submit to the SEF:

  • Passport (front & back)
  • Travel documents & Legal entry declaration
  • 2 Passport size photograph with a black background
  • Bank statement last 3 months
  • Adequate accommodation proof
  • Police Criminal Certificate from the Home Country
  • Medical Certificate from the medical officer or equivalent medical centre recognized by the Ministry of Health
  • Other documents to declare a relationship

The decision solely depends on the SEF directorate or regional delegate based on the authenticity of the documents.
