Family Reunification
According to the Portuguese emigration law family, the reunification visa process falls under Object98 & paragraph 1.
Spouse and family visa allows to Non-European citizen to join the relatives those are living in Portugal. The person living in Portugal keeping a Permanent or Provisional permit has the right to invite his/her family members like spouses, depending on children, parents, adopted children and siblings. Therefore, Relatives, parents, and partners can apply for a family visa to join Portugal’s family members. Suppose the family member or spouse is living in Portugal and have a temporary residence permit in Portugal. In that case, they can implement Portugal’s family reunification visa for the same duration of their stay.
In marriage, the Spouse will get an independent residence permit if the friendship has lasted for more than five years. They will get the same rights as Portuguese nationals have in terms of employment, education, social security, tax, and healthcare.
Documents required for application to join a relative or partner in Portugal:
Application for a family/spouse visa applied by an individual who operates a Portuguese residence permit & initially, he/she needs to schedule an online appointment for using SEF
Below documents are required to apply.
- Proof of residence permit
- Two recent photographs, in colour with a blank background
- Proof of relationship with family members
- Copies of passport & Id cards for family members
- Proof of accommodation/stay for family members
- Proof of sufficient funds to meet the needs of family members
- All tax documents
- Criminal record certificate
- Certificate of adoption if children are adopted
- Birth certificate
- Proof of educational enrollment in Portugal, those children are studying in Portugal.
- Certificate of legal guardianship in the case of minor siblings.
- Marriage certificate/registration in case of a spouse
After approval of a family visa, residence visas awarded in each family member’s name. The SEF will also inform the claimant to the Portuguese Ministry Of Foreign Affairs and the Portuguese embassy or consulate in the applicant’s home country.
